The year was 2019 I had not yet done 1000 pictures of strangers. I moved to a country with a business that after 2 months I quit. My flight was set to two months after so I stayed in bed feeling sorry for myself since I didn’t speak the language or knew anyone, but then an idea sparked in my head.
My Thai Neighbors
I quickly googled the words for “May I please take your picture” after going out and finally getting to speak to people (very very badly) I felt a sense of joy when the people i constantly saw walking around let me take their pictures and get to know them.
How I asked strangers that didn’t speak English for pictures
I went out and asked everyone I had seen in my community, but not engaged with for a picture. Most did not understand me. To communicate I used a google translate app. A lot of the time people still didn’t understand so I just pointed at my camera and smiled. A lot of the time they would smile back and nod their head or give a thumbs up.
Some of the moments were the most magical of my life even though we didn’t understand each other.
Here are more of the strangers I shot around my neighborhood!
