This service focuses on portraits, press photos, and visual project photography for artists. Sessions combine direction and conversation so you look like yourself on camera. We photograph in the studio and on location to match the mood of your music, gallery work, or promotional materials.
Think about the projects you want images for. Bring 2 to 3 outfit ideas that represent different looks: one casual, one more styled, and one experimental or performance-ready. Include small props that matter to your work, like an instrument, a sketchbook, or a stage garment. Keep hair and makeup simple unless you have a specific concept. If you need a quick check on an outfit, bring a photo of the intended album cover or poster so the look can be matched to the final use.
Sessions are guided, not posed into stiffness. We use conversation and short direction to find natural expressions and posture. For performance portraits, move as you would on stage for a handful of motion frames. For press headshots, keep the shoulders relaxed and vary eye contact with the camera and slightly away. Small changes matter: shift weight, change hand placement, or tilt the head a degree. These tiny moves create a mix of candid and direct portraits that fit press kits and social profiles alike.
A strong artist set includes full body, three quarter, and close-up portraits plus at least a couple of character shots that feel candid. Review frames for consistent lighting and distinct moods that match your use cases. Label images by intended use: press kit, album art, profile, or gig poster. If you plan to use images on platforms like dating apps or other dating apps, pick photos with clear faces, natural smiles, and at least one image that shows you in context with your art or instrument.
The process centers on goals and practical choices so the session stays focused. Each stage builds toward a set of images that work for press, promotional use, and creative projects. You will be guided on look choices, movement, and expression to get usable portraits.
Start by naming where images will appear and what they need to communicate. Is this for a press kit, an album cover, a gallery announcement, or a mix? Clear goals narrow outfit and location choices and shape direction during the shoot. Bring references or links that show the mood you want. Defining goals first helps keep the session efficient and aligned with the final uses.
Match outfits and props to the goals set earlier. Choose one look that reads well at small sizes, and one more dramatic option for posters or covers. Decide between the studio and an outdoor location for each look. The studio provides controlled light and clean backgrounds. Outdoor sites add texture and context. A short plan with three looks keeps the session focused while giving enough variety for different promotional needs.
During the shoot you will receive short, specific direction on posture, gaze, and small movements. We aim for natural, expressive frames rather than frozen poses. For movement or performance shots, work through real gestures and play music if that helps. Between sets we change light or backdrop to create clear visual differences. This keeps the shoot moving and builds a compact but varied set of images.
Near the end of the session review the visual range covered. Confirm there are strong options for headshots, full body, and a few contextual images with instruments or props. Make sure at least one portrait reads well at small sizes for social profiles or press thumbnails. This quick in-session check helps ensure you leave with practical image choices for different platforms.

Prepare by choosing 2 to 3 outfits that cover the looks you need. Bring any props or instruments that are part of your act or visual practice. If you have a particular mood or reference, save a few images on your phone to show during the session. Rest, hydrate, and arrive with hair and makeup roughly as you want it photographed. A simple checklist: outfits, props, references, and a plan for where you want images used.
Expect short, precise directions rather than rigid poses. We use conversation to find natural expressions and adjust posture one small step at a time. You might be asked to shift weight, change where you look, or move your hands. For performance shots we encourage real movement so the images feel alive. The aim is to produce portraits that match your public persona while keeping you comfortable on set.
Sessions are available in the studio at 1145 NW 28th St, and we also work on location when a site fits the project. The studio offers controlled light and minimal backgrounds that work well for press and headshots. On-location shoots give context and texture suited to album covers, editorial, and promotional materials. Choose the option that best supports your creative direction and the images you need.
Pick images based on use and scale. For press, choose clear headshots and at least one environmental portrait that shows your work. For social profiles and tour promotion pick a mix of face-forward and contextual shots. For dating apps like dating apps favor photos with clear faces, natural smiles, and at least one image that shows your interests or craft. Label intended uses so the final selection covers each platform without repeating the same type of image.
Plan your session once you know the key dates for release, press, or booking announcements. Book early enough to allow time for scheduling and any outfit or concept changes prior to the shoot. If you have a deadline for a press kit or album artwork, tell us when you contact the studio so we can advise on availability and timing around that date.
